The system returns automattically from standby after about 1 minute.
Power Option is set to go to standby after 20 minutes no hibernation.
In the bios, i am set to S3/STR, USB wakeup disabled
Resume on all options is set to disabled.

Try leaving your mouse on a piece of foam and going into standby via
the keyboard. Basically, if there is enough vibration to disturb the
surface of a glass of water, it will also wake up your mouse - like,
say, putting the system on standby and getting up from the desk.

If you aren't moving at all (or doing anything silly like breathing),
then reinstall your video drivers and reboot. I've been having to do
that from time to time, particularly after some updates.

Thank you for your prompt response. Reloaded all motherboard drivers and
video driver. ng
using msconfig.exe, turned off all things and then brought them back up 1 by
1. found problem to be with the task schedulder.
About a week ago, I had installed Mcafee SpamKiller. Did not like the way
it worked so I uninstalled. Problem occurred after that.
Went thru the registry and deleted all references to mcafee. went to mcafee
website and used their tools to finish uninstall. after that, i
thought the problem had to be someplace else. But no, they did not
uninstall the entry in the task manager that called for update with mcafee
every 5 minutes. Which was what woke up my computer. Damn them.
