Restrictions

Every time I try to start msconfig I get an error msg
saying (this operation has been cancelled due to
restrictions in effect on this computer). Also my norton
antivirus won't start, the fax moniter won't start,
system restore won't restore back. how do I fix this

From there go to Start/Run/Regedit and delete the runkeys of suspicious
entries that are listed under msconfig/Startup. If you have to, look up
each one (to identify the virus/worm) or try to run an online cleaner.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

When all is done, run this edit:

To use the Regedits: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
