How can I restore a page from a backup cd? When I try to
save a page in the current web from a backup, I get the
message, "The server extensions were unable to access the
file "E:\Wheelers\_vti_pvt\service.lck. Please check file
permissions." E is the drive of my backup CD,
and "wheelers" is the name of the web.

Sandra,

When you store a web on CD and then restore the files back to your hard
drive, they will usually have the "Read Only" property set. This is because
CDs are (typically) read-only and Windows copies that setting when copying
the file.

You should copy the contents of the CD to your hard drive, then clear the
"Read Only" property. Then try opening your web from your hard drive and
you shouldn't have the problem.

Thanks! I also found a paper by Microsoft. I can't
remember the site right now, but I searched
on "service.lck" and found the page – for any of you who
are interested.

When making the backups try using WinZip. The zip file will have the
read-only attribute. The zipped files, however, will retain the original
attributes when the file is unzipped.

Hope this helps,
