Restore to a setpoint doesn't work

I was trying to restore Windows Xp Home Edition Sp1 to a
previous date setpoint to clear up a problem I had and I
found that none of the setpoints I tried would restore. I
went back about 7 or 8 setpoints and none of them would
work to restore to that date. What could be wrong?
