Restore points

Can anybody please help?
I can create manual restore points and automatic ones
obviously happen, the problem is that every now and then
i suddenly have no restore point history at all. Up
untill two days ago i had restore points that i could go
into back to June this year (still not very far back) and
two days ago i had none, some how they had been wiped
clean, this seems to happen every three or four months
WHY?
Any advise would be gratefully received

There is a specific amount of space allocated for System Restore, no matter
how large you make it, when the allocated space is used, old restore points
are deleted. Also, reinstalling XP or doing a Repair install will also
delete all restore points as will turning System Restore off and then back
on.
