Restore Original Log on/Welcome Screen set up

Hi, I did search but didn't find a specific answer to my problem. I read
enough to learn that my system tries to log on the default Admin. account at
Startup, which should only be available in Safe Mode. I don't know why it
started to do this. At about the same time, my regular user account
disappeared from the Welcome screen and I had to create a new account. The 3
other accounts on my comp. were not affected.
I would like to restore the original settings, where the Windows started up
and then the Welcome screen is displayed with all the user accounts.
Right now, I just keep hitting that "Account could not be logged on due to
account restriction" message (I can proceed normally after that).
Any help greatly appreciated!

First off, make sure the Welcome Screen is enabled.
Go to Control Panel -> User Accounts and click on "Change the
way users log on or off".
Check "Use the Welcome Screen".
Note: You can also check "Use Fast User Switching" if you want.
Hit the "Apply Options" button.
Next, go to Start -> Run and enter the following in the Open
box.

control userpasswords2

On the Users page, put a check mark in the box next to "Users
of this computer must enter a user name and password to use
this computer".
Click OK.
Restart the computer to see if you get the desired results.

Good luck

I forgot to mention that 2 accounts did start asking for passwords when none
had been set, and no one could get into their accounts. If I reset as you
suggest, will we all need to set passwords? Would prefer not to...
Thanks for help.

The procedure I outlined in my earlier response should not
result in a non-password protected account being asked to
provide a password when attempting to logon to XP. They should
still be able to simply click on the icon representing their
user account on the Welcome Screen. Running control
userpasswords2 and checking the box on the Users page should
only disable the autologon feature.

If you've got non-password protected accounts suddenly being
asked to enter a password then you may be dealing with
corrupted user accounts.

If you have any other questions, post back with more details on
your problem including the exact text of any error messages you
are receiving. Also, indicate whether you're system is, as I
suspect, is running XP Home Edition.

Good luck
