restore backups- 98 to xp

My hard drive crashed on windows 98 machine. I bought new
machine with xp. The backup tool in xp uses different
format and will not recognize win 98 backups. Is there a
conversion tool? Other solution to my problem?

Work Around:

You may have success restoring Win 9X backups (.qic files)
with Stomp BackupMYPC (formerly Veritas Backup Exec),
