Restore a backup without Registry?

I have a major problem which required a reinstallation of WinXP from the OEM
Windows CD. My next step is to Restore my apps and data from my CD backup
(StompSoft Backup MyPC).

Is it necessary to Restore the Registry when I Restore my apps and data? I
suspect I know the answer but I had to ask.

Peter.

If you've done a clean install, it would be best to reinstall the
applications as opposed to restoring them from backup.

As to your other question, open the backup you wish to restore, do not use
the wizard, go to the restore tab. Then, select the files that you wish to
restore. Also, go to Job on the toolbar, select Options and go to the
Advanced tab. Remove the check from "Restore NTFS file permissions" and
click apply. Since you have created what is essentially a new setup, even
though the user name is the same, restoring the file permissions will cause
you to lose access to some files as XP will see this as a new setup.

Why not use the file transfer wizard,it specifically backs up all user files
and settings, open the wizard, set computer as old, store the data files on
a new folder you create, when its thru, transfer folder to cd.You can specify
on
what you want it to save.
