A Restore Point vs. A Good Registry Backup?

Gentlemen / Ladies:

I use 'Registry Clean Expert' to check my registry and save regular
clean backups of it after 'cleaning house' weekly with Spybot,
AdAware, AVG Free, SpywareBlaster, CW Shredder, and CCleaner. If I
used 'Restore' in XP Home, and were to use it to restore my system
info to a date (or point) in the past that I also had a registry
backup for, would there be any difference between the two?

My desire is to know if a 'restore,' using a point a few days back,
does any more, or any less, than replacing a current 'bad' registry
with a 'good' one that was made the same time as the 'restore point'
was made?

Thank you,
JoAnne

Hi JoAnne,

System Restore replaces the registry along with monitored system files.

Here's a list of files and folders System Restore monitors:

Erunt is the utility of choice for backing up only the registry. One of the
advantages of Erunt is it can be run from outside Windows. I would not
recommend disabling System Restore as the Erunt suggests.

Thank you Bert! Your input is much appreciated. So, 'System Restore'
is BETTER than a simple Registry backup as it handles more than the
Registry does. Interesting!

Now, I have another question, but probably should post it as a 'new'
post so others will see it.

Thank you,

JoAnne
