I'm unable to use system restore. The restore points are made automatically
but
when I try to restore I get the message "the computer was unable to restore
to this date." I have tried this over several days but always...no joy.
Sometime in the past, CRS you know, I ran a registry cleaner and removed
some "stuff." Supposedly items that were not needed and were just trash.
Now, I'm wondering.
Would anyone have any helpfull suggestions?

Hi Susie,

My suggestion is not to run any registry cleaner other than the Windows Live
OneCare which is free (for the online safety scanner). My suggestion is that,
in hope that your OS is not actually configured wrongly or even corrupted,
you could make your own restore point and try to restore to that dummy point.
Please note some antispyware (or other spyware removal software) does DISABLE
system restore service. It will be good should you could provide us with
general description of your system (like what antivirus or whatever
antispyware you are using)

Hope this helps,

If you are using Norton, that will interfere with SR.
Disable it before using SR

Spyware/Malware will also stop System restore.
Why were you wanting to do a System Restore?
Strange computer behaviour?

Thanks for the help, all of you.
The restore in safe mode did it for me.
I didn't know anything about safe mode.
Thanks again...Susie

Susie,
Those links are to the people here who spout the misinformation about no
registry cleaner being any good and all are dangerous. Just ignore
them. The mvps has dummies just like any organization.

Reason and logic wins out once again against the idiots who insist no
registry cleaner can be run without damage, never use one, they're all
dangerous, etc.. Half a thought would have told them it had nothing to
do with the issue at hand.

Leonard posted a legitimate and sensible caution against using a
registry cleaner because Susie had indicated using one.

You're the one peddling misinformation! 99% of those making serious
contributions to these newsgroups are bored to tears with your
ridiculous twaddle!

"...bored to tears with your ridiculous twaddle!"

Not me, since I killfile-ed that loser. ;-)

Not really. My dialect does not have an Irish Australian lilt. More like
a Brummie Cockney so others tell me depending on whether they are
cockney or brummie.

Susie; For your own peace of mind and trouble free computing do not accept
Twaynes misinformation.
Just ask any 20 knowledgeable Microsoft MVP's about the dangers of registry
cleaners.

?????????????????????????
Won't work; there aren't 20 of them that stupid. Ask anyone with real
world experience. Misinformation is your game, stupidity your fame.

You are a non helpful clown that pops up here, from time to time.
Get back in your hole!

Wortzik; do you eat that!!!!

From personal experience here with you, where you have disagreed with my
correct answer, you are a complete fool!

And Registry Cleaners are NOT needed in modern OSs.
