Restoring system backup from CD -

Guest

We performed a system backup on a PC, then burned the sys backup to CD. I
now need to restore this system backup to a completely different PC in order
to retrieve some excel documents. The source PC was formatted.

I created a system restore point on the target PC but where do I go from
here? If I need to restore this backup to the C drive on the new PC, where
does it go so that the system restore utility can find it? From what I
read, I cannot point the restore to my CD. (that would sure be my
preference!)

I am NOT a Windows knowledgeble person and I am the lone cowgal in the shop
now. WHat ever help you give me is much appreciated but it really needs to
be in kindergarten terminology!

Thanks!

Backup and System Restore have nothing to do with each other. With what
program did you do the system backup?

My Ops Mgr (who has since departed) used the Accessories/System
Tools/Backup (everything on this pc) . I see where there is an option
to Restore FIles and settings and I can point this to a different location
such as a CD. Is this the place I need to go??? (mebbe I should
re-phrase that question LOL)

Here are various links showing you how to use NTBackup.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=NTBackup+restore+files&btnG=Search

It doesn't look to me like you can restore just one file, but then I've
never used NTBackup, preferring more modern and flexible backup
programs. Someone else will probably know the answer to that.

I also did a Google for "restore one file from NTBackup" and perhaps a
link from that search will help you:

The plan was to restore the full system backup on a spare PC. From there I
wanted to review the various docs and print out what I needed. I don't
need to directly restore just one file from the system backup.

Then the first search I did has quite a few links (some with pictures)
that will help you.
