I am a pc tech working on a dell dimension 4400 running
windows XP home edition with SP1 installed.

Every time I try to run a norton antivirus manual virus
scan on the "C" drive the system reboots at random times.
"it may get 5 or 10 thousand files and reboot, or it may
get over 60 thousand files before it reboots, or any
where in between"

does anybody have any ideas as to why this is happening,
the Norton is the only program that causes this problem.

I have removed the drive and scanned it via a usb adapter
through our server with current virus defs and have found
no viruses on it.

And please no snide remarks about getting rid of the
norton because it is crap or something like that!!

Thanks in advance

Dwight

Can I get some kind of reply some time this year!!

Its been over 2 hours since my original post, and not
even a give us a few or anything!

I see others who posted way after me getting replies
right and left!!

Come on MS get your techs to work and give me some ideas!!

I can't believe you are a "pc tech" and don't know that this is a public
newsgroup, not MS tech support. This is peer-to-peer support and if you
haven't gotten an answer yet, it's because no one has the answer to
give you. I personally don't like to answer unless I'm really sure
because misleading information can be damaging. However, my guess would
be that the installation of Norton is somehow corrupted. I'd uninstall
and reinstall, and if that didn't work and I was committed to staying
with Norton, I'd call Symantec tech support.

HTH,

Malke
