Every time the machine is restarted, a "you must restart to continue update"
message comes up. No matter how many times it is restarted, the message
reappears. Machine & all applications work okay anyway. How do I get rid of
the reacurring message?

I have no idea. This has been going on for a long, long time. Currently the
machine is a SP3 with all subsequent updates.

Again, when (date) did you install SP3?

I would NOT have installed SP3 with the machine in that state, Foenix.
