unable to successfuly restore to 6 tries while receiving an "unable to
restore to this point even though I select the highlited dates in the restore
calender. This prcedure takes a lot of time between selected dates only to
receive a message " try another restore point." What am I doing wrong.???

It's likely you are not doing anything wrong, the restore points are simply unusable. Turn off restore, restart, and turn it on
again to create a new restore point

If you run an XP "Upgrade"setup, from the original, or "Gold" version of the setup CD, and you have SP2 installed, it might go into
a setup loop, and you could lose your install. Uninstall SP2, BEFORE you Upgrade setup from CD (that lacks sp2 on it.)

Hi Mark.
I have already done what you suggested regarding creating a new restore
point, however this did not solve the original intent of trying to restore to
a point prior to December 14th when xp(kb873339 automatic update kept failing
to install even though I tried a dozen times manualy to do it. Other updates
since then have installed but the auto system keeps trying to load and
install kb873339 up until this date and continues to fail. The creation of a
new restore point automaticaly choses this date,Jan 22nd 2005 which I have
done ok.I removed and shut off sp2 firewall and spybot,ad aware etc., except
for Nortons works and anti virus program and tried to install the security
upgrade to no avail.
I have a laptop connected to my Router using xp home with the sp2 upgraded
and this security upgrade loaded OK. I dont know what else to do except I
have an E-Mail in to Microsoft describing this problem in my HP 764n Pavilion
computer.
Thanks for your help. I will expect an answer from Microsoft in 24 hours and
will not persue the restore point at this time but will save your information
for further use when required.
