System Restore

I am unable to get System Restore to successfully take my Dell Dimension 2400
computer back to any bold selected date, although the program appears to run
satisfactorily up to the point when I am informed "System Restore was unable
to restore your computer to Jan 4th (or whenever)". No matter what restore
point I select I always receive this failure message. Has anyone any ideas
or solved the same problem? I should add that I have Norton anti-virus and
Works installed, as well as Miicrosoft anti-spyware and Tiscali firewall.

Dear TufftyBob,

Many thanks for taking the trouble to give me advice. I have now disabled
System Restore and re-activated so have lost all my previous restore points
so unfortunately can't test your prognosis.

I should add that I also use Norton Anti Virus as part of Norton Internet
Security 2005 (and NIS 2004 before that) as well as Works 8 as part of Works
Suite 2005.

Because of my individual problem with system restore never fixing anything I
have not used it for at least a year so I have always had to use system
recovery.

I dont think that the Norton and Works apps are part of the problem but I am
no expert so I s'pose they could be.

One of your security programs may be stopping it from completing the
Restore feature. Try it in Safe Mode.

Hi,

Most of the time this is caused by a corrupt restore point and disabling
SR and then enabling it as you have done will fix the problem.
