resolution size question

Hi,

currently i am running a Hp Pavilion dv5000 widescreen with 1280 x 800
resolution.
xp, sp2.

I am really weird, and I love big open spaces so i want to increase my
resolution size.
In the default settings, I 'can' up to 2048 x 1536, but when I go
larger (not 2048 big, but around 1600 or so) the screen changes sizes
and all, but now to see the entirety of my screen i have to scroll
around (not with a scroll bar but it does it automatically when the
pointer reaches the edge of the screen).

Is there anyway to change this so the icons proceed to get smaller, I
get more space, and i dont have to scroll around to find the edges of
my desktop?

--Thanks, Brad

Not supported by your laptop screen...

"Display resolution: 1280 x 800"

Anything larger than that and you get what you have stated.

That's a "virtual desktop". Usually you don't get anything at all beyond the supported resolution of the screen, but sometimes the
better display driver developers will throw in that mode as a bonus (although it has limited use).

To answer your question, no not really. You should check to see what your DISPLAY (the monitor part), not the video card can
support. It should be listed in the Display Properties applet, just make sure to check "Hide Modes that My Monitor cannot display".
