22" monitor- wrong resolution?

E

Erik

Win XP SP2.
I have a 22" LCD monitor that is attached as an external monitor to my
laptop. Until recently it displayed
a resolution of 1200 x 1600. A recent restart changed that and now 1200 x
1600 requires the screen to scroll (by pushing the cursor against the edge
of the screen) in order to cover all from side to side. Quite annoying.

How do I return to the previous situation where the actual screen of the LCD
displayed 1600x1200 within the whole screen without scrolling?

Thanks,

Erik

The first question is: are you absolutely certain that you were driving yor
screen at 1600x1200 originally? The behaviour that you describe is typical
of driving a screen at above its native resolution (though it does depend on
the monitor and how it is interfaced). What happens if you change to a
lower resolution (say) 1280 x 1024?

Any resolution above the your 22" LCD native resolution will cause the screen
to pan. If you set the resolution exactly to the native resolution, the
panning should stop. Your 22" LCD should have came with a driver cd that you
should have installed. This driver cd tells XP and video chip what is your
maximum resolution of your 22" LCD. When you buy a new LCD the outside box
and manual also tells you the native or perfered resolution.

Thanks

It still displays 1280 x 1024 but so did my 20" monitor. (The reason I
bought a 22" was for the higher res.)

Thanks.

unfortunately, there was no driver CD. The res on the box said 1050 x 1680
but the available options in "Display" in Win XP SP2 is 1200 x1600 (which it
used to work nicely with).

Thanks,

Erik

For a 22" widescreen the native is usually at least (and perhaps more than)
1680 x 1050 ( h x v). I don't follow your numbers here.

unfortunately, there was no driver CD.

Download the driver from the manufacturer's website.

What's the monitor make and model?

The monitor is intended to be used in portrait mode then (1200 width x 1600
height) ?

Unfortunately, there is no res of 1680 x 1050 in the list of resolutions.
The mfg says no driver is required. What shall I do?
Thanks.

V7 R22W02 22" LCD
Unfortunately, per mfg web site, there is no driver for this model.
Thanks.

Who knows he keeps switching the resolution numbers around.

Assuming it is a 4:3 monitor it should be 1600 wide by 1200 deep.

It could be the video adapter on the laptop doesn't the native resolution
for the monitor.

For all we know hw has just set it wrong in the properties.

A quick look tells me this is a widescreen monitor, with a native resolution
of 1680 x 1050, so any resolution should be 16:10 to maintain a proper
aspect ratio.

There might be an option to set flat panel scaling in his video card display
setting, or he may be using clone mode with his laptop, which is causing the
external monitor to have the same resolution as his laptp screen.

The resolution needs to be supported by your graphics card. If an
update doesn't help, you'll need to buy a better card.

The video adapter is:
VAI/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP
It is in my laptop. It worked fine until recently for resolution of 1200 x
1600 (h x w) and with another monitor as well.
Thanks.
