Resize Quick Launch (through registry?)

I have a notebook that I use at work and at home. When I am at home and log
into the local machine, my quick launch bar goes al the way across the screen
with my open applications in the bar above it. However, when I log into my
network domain at the office, the quick launch bar is just three icons on the
left. Even if I deselect "Lock the taskbar," I am unable to resize the quick
launch bar with the mouse. I'm guessing that there is some global policy on
this domain to keep users from messing with their desktop. Is there some way
(perhaps through the registry) that I can make the quick launch bar appear
all the way across the screen no matter which user/domain I log in as (even
if it means changing a setting for each user individually). Any help would be
greatly appreciated!

Why do you log in differently depending on where you are?

When I am at home, I am not connected to a network so I log in to the local
machine. When I am in my office, I plug in to the network via ethernet and
log in to our network domain. Obviously, I cannot log in to the domain when I
am not connected to the corporate network. Note: When I log in to the local
machine, I have full administrative rights. When I log in to the domain, I am
subject to the policies in effect on that domain.

Cached Logons solve the problem of the domain not being available. You
can - in fact - logon with your domain credentials anywhere, as long as you
have logged in with them previously and connected to the domain.

I have found people get irritated by the sometimes longer logons of this
method, so you can also create two profiles (one local, one domain) - then
use a registry trick combined with file and folder permissions to point both
profiles to the same location under C:\Documents and Settings - then when
you logon either locally or in the domain - you are still using the same
profile --> meaning whatever you do to one - you did to the other and other
than running the actual domain scripts (logon scripts, usually) when you
logon to the domain account --> they are the same.

You are subject to the domain policies either way - they have been put on
that machine before you even logon.

And to access domain resources you usually do not even have to have your
computer in the domain - you just have to know a valid username/password for
the domain and know what it is you wish to use (printer, file shares,
etc...)

This is why I asked why you log on differently - which means you have two
profiles on the machine at any given time - so yeah - they are different.

Interesting. I'm not sure if this helps me make the quick launch bar bigger.
Do you know of any registry keys that would let me manually set the size of
the quick launch bar for a specific user.domain?

Might also find MyLogon working in 'as required' mode useful here - when used
this way it doesn't do anything that cannot be achieved by other routes such
as batch commands, but it does make accessing a domain from a laptop a
simple. ergonomic operation, and one that doesn't alter local settings.

BTW, have you tried dragging the top of the bar upwards? This will normally
make it double height, which sounds like what you have. (of course, policies
may prevent this)
