Resitrcting File and Printer Sharing to one NIC on a multi-NIC machine

S

Steve

Hello,

I've got 3 NIC's on my PC. I only want File & Printer sharing to be
available through one of those cards, how can I do this ?

The Networks Properties panes for each NIC shows the following services has
having been installed

Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

However only in one do I have the check box against each selected, the other
two only have TCP/IP selected.
Finally I've currently got each card setup on a seperate subnet., one
exposed directly to the internet the others are internal.

If I look at the list of ports being subscripted to I see each card is
listing on their respective IP addresses
to:

137 UDP NETBIOS Name Service
138 UDP NETBIOS Session Service
139 TCP NETBIOS Session Service

How can I just have one NIC setup with these services ?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

With a bit more information, help is out there.
Are you running through a router, do you have XP Pro, what's the purpose of
using 3 NIC's? etc.

You did it right, bind the two ms network services ONLY to the one nic.

If you want to disable netbios over TCP on those nic's as well, you need
to dig a bit deeper in that same dialog: go into each one's tcp/ip
properties, advanced button, wins tab, and select "disable netbios...".
