Windows XP resettign network connection count

How do i reset the network connection counter?

Argh doin my head in everytime i remove a network connection and delete it i reboot and it steps up to next number. I know i can do it just cant remember now :(

ie

Local area connection 7
Local area connection 8

and so on. they should be 1 and 2 grrrrrr

thanks peeps i know theres a way just cant remember :)
