Reserve Drive Letter for Network Drive

Hi,

My computer map a network drive each time it starts with the following command
net use F: \\pcname\sharedfolder

But if i plug a USB drive to the PC, F: is this USB Drive. Is there a way in
XP Pro to reserve a drive letter (F:) only for this network drive, so that no
other disk can use it?

You can change drive letters in Disk manager.

Right click MyComputer, select manage
select disk manager,
Expand window to full screen so you can see all drives.
highlight the drive you want changed,
have your USB drive plugged in.
select Action at the top and All tasks,
Select Change drive letter and path,
Choose a letter higher in the alphabet.

Note: You cannot change the Operating boot drive (C).

Thanks for your answer.
I know that I can change drive letter manual. Bu if I plu in another USB
drive it would also assign F: as Drive letter and I have to change it again.
I need a way to reserve this Drive Letter so that it can only used by the
network drive I connect to.

Can you assign your network drive a letter towards the end of
the alphabet? That would be the easiest solution.

Take a look at this article for more info:

New drive or mapped network drive not available in Windows

Good luck

net use * \\pcname\sharedfolder will assign network drives starting with Z.

XP cannot. As the others wrote the best way to avoid this
conflict is to use 'high letters' for network shares.

Or you remount the USB drive each time, maybe thru a by commandline:

If a different letter for the network share is no option then
my USB drive letter manager may be a solution:
