Request for certain features in Windows Live Mail and Vista Mail

I am currently using Vista's Windows Mail but I understand that all future
development will be with Windows Live Mail. I find it difficult to read WLM
due to the colors used in the folder sidebar. I understand how to set the
colors of the WLM main window and how to change the color of a folder.
However I have found no way to change the highlighting in such a way as to
provide more contrast. The very pale highlighting is quite difficult for me
to see. Likewise the pale blue text (i.e. "add to contacts") is difficult
to see and I have found no way to change this. There needs to be a setting
to change this as well as a setting to change the highlighting. I do know
how to change text colors and highlighting in the text of an email I am
sending, but my concern here is the default colors used in WLM. In the mean
time, I shall continue to use Windows Mail as it is easy to read.

Other readers have complained about the lack of icons in WLM. However, I
prefer text (or both). This brings up another important feature that is
lacking in both WLM and WM. Both programs (and Vista itself) expect the use
of a mouse to control essentially all actions. As a touch typist, I miss
the ability to do keyboard commands and shortcuts like in XP. The Bold or
Underlined letter in most command buttons showed which letter to use as a
shortcut for that command. In Vista these seem to have disappeared. To me,
taking my hands off the keyboard to use a mouse is often wasted motion. In
particular, when reading newsgroups, keyboard shortcuts save considerable
time (i.e. CTRL-SHIFT-U is the shortcut for go to the next unread message),

I guess most readers will consider me old fashioned and behind the times.
But when I moved to Windows and left WordStar with its inline commands
behind, I soon developed a repetitive motion wrist injury from mouse usage.
Now that I am comfortable with Word, this no longer happens. I do not use
cute little "emoticons" or custom stationary at all, and I try to keep my
email and Usenet postings as plain text.

I certainly hope Microsoft will not drop keyboard shortcuts completely. I
also hope they will pick color schemes that are more suitable for old
geezers like myself. After all, growing old with failing vision is bad
enough without making software more difficult to see and use!
