I got hit with the BACKDOOR.HACARMY virus and the Symantec web site
suggests to turn of 'unneeded' services such as FTP and TELNET.

Can someone tell me how to do this? Or if I should?

Thanks

This appears to be generic, and wise, advice (I'm reading from
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.hacarmy.html).

Unless you turned these services on, it is unlikely they are turned on.
Check by running the program "services.msc" (which is also available
on the Control Panel/Admin app).

It shows Telnet disabled and FTP is not listed.

Thanks
