REQ: freeware movie editor

Okay, I will try again. I guess my previous post wasn't very clear.

I use Windows XP SP1 and it has Movie Maker. I can edit .mpg files
with it, but it wants to save them as .wmv files and I want them saved
back to .mpg files. Is there a freeware alternative to Windows Movie
Maker I can use? Thank you.

MovieMaker outputs wmv or DV-AVI video. Save the file as DV-AVI, then
import that file into TMPGEnc, which can convert it to an mpeg1 file.

Better yet, use TMPGenc to edit your mpeg1 files, as long as the
editing consists of ordinary cutting and splicing.
