Repost :- Screen res keeps changing

Every time I boot, the screen res changes from 1024 x 768 to 800 x 600
automatically. I dont have any viruses or mal/adware trojans etc etc. I am
running xp pro on an Athlon 64 dual core 3800+, 300gb HDD, Asus A8n-E MOBO,
Nvidia geoforce 6800LE, 4GB PC3200 RAM.

What can be causing this?

Registry problems would most likely be the cause. Try going into regedit
(Start, Run, type regedit, and press enter). Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

(Click on the Explorer key, and look to the right-side pane)

If you see something called NoSaveSettings, delete it and restart your
computer.

I can only think of one other thing to try.. Right-click your desktop, go to
properties, in Display Properties, go to the Settings tab .. Before changing
the resolution, click advanced, and select the option to Restart the computer
before applying changes, and click OK. Then change your settings, and when it
asks you to restart, click OK.

Did you try updating the drivers and, if that didn't work, swapping out
the card for a known-working one as I suggested in your first thread?
What were the results?

It is unlikely that sudden changes in resolution (changes that occur
with no third-party software running such as changes directly after
running an older game) are caused by software.
