I can't comment on RAM or hard drive. I don't know your system
specifications.

You can network any operating system. The minimum you'll need is a network
card in each PC, a 10/100 switch and the appropriate cabling.

Yes the main pc has a network card, the other does not. In doing that what will I have to change in the network settings if any, or after I get them hooked up do I use the networking wizard in XP, the main comptuer?

If you want both PCs to have concurrent access to the web, then see the
tutorial at: http://home.comcast.net/~bobwbsgs/homenet.txt

<Opinion follows>
If your son is young enough to need some monitoring of his web usage,
then it is a mistake to park his PC in his room. It is far better to
park his PC in the area where you are most likely to be (family room,
den, kitchen); and to tell him that you have the right/obligation to
watch his web access, and follow through. I feel these rules make sense
up through high school, but it does depend on the maturity of the kid.

Yes I know kids will be kids, and try anything.... But my wife and I monitor everything from the phone bill, cellphone bill and to the types of video games he plays(more on my wife) thanks for the concern :)
