Replies to follow own formatting instead of sender's

Following my post on 17th Jan 2006 on "New messages and Replies to follow my
formatting", to which Roady MVP replied that it can't be done, I'm raising
this as a suggestion for inclusion in future Outlook upgrades:

Since Outlook now allows user to set formatting styles for New Messages,
user should also be able to set option of whether these styles are to be used
for Replies instead of having to follow the formatting set by the sender.

For e.g., I've set Normal style to have Numbering by different levels so all
my New Messages will follow that style.

If I receive e-mail from a user who has a different setting for Normal
style, my own style settings should override the sender's.

This should apply even if sender sends e-mail in Plain Text format.

If the sender's email/Office program does not support your version, why
should your preferences override the sender's? It is always good netiquette
to respect the sender's options rather than override them with your own,
especially if the sender's program does not support them or the sender
requires assistance with screen reading. Doing otherwise is a disservice
and a discourtersy.

Well, some senders also use Rich Text but their formatting styles are
different from mine. So, maybe the suggestion should be to have my reply
portion follow my formatting styles and the rest of the e-mail (if replying
with original message) can follow the sender's settings.

As for users whose systems cannot support Rich Text, I read somewhere that
these systems will automatically convert the message to plain text anyway. I
won't comment on the etiquette bit but as a user, I would still like to be
able to reply with my formatting styles. As a business user of the program,
I need to compose precise and clear e-mails and I do that with formatting so
everything looks neat and professional. Sometimes too, i reply to a group of
people, one or two of which may actually turn on Plain Text. I'd rather the
majority receive the nice version of the e-mail.

We all should realize what the "netiquette" is, when it comes to such issues
as these. However, the point is that there are times when indeed this
function would be "rightly" used; and the program should account for such
instances.

For instance......(personally speaking)......I know some of my friends and
family can accept and enjoy my stationery and html creations. Just because
they happen to send me something "blank", does not mean that I would not like
to respond to them with something more "decorative".

User's need to be responsible for themselves and their actions. A program
should make available as many options as possible to the user(s).

*stepping off of my soap box now* *heehee*

Thanks for listening. ;c)

My rational for supporting this requirement:
AOL Support wants a copy of previously sent OL 2002 email forwarded to in
PLAIN TEXT format; BUT MS provides NO instructions for how to do this (I have
spent many hours researching MS website, pgm help doc's, etc). Neither was I
able to locate anything which says whether or not this is even possible w/my
"OfficeXP for Small Business OutLook 2002 SP3".

AOL wants this because ONLY it fails to forward my email to any of its
subscribers giving BOGUS errors which falsely say they contain IP addresses
in place of domain names (see below) when in actuality all my imbedded links
are http URL's.

I.e.

EXPLANATION:
One or more URLs in your message contain an IP address in place of a domain
name.
SOLUTION:
Please make sure that all URLs in your message contain domain names and not
IP addresses. All <a href> tags must be entered as a domain name and not an
IP address.
EXAMPLE:
Incorrect: http://64.12.187.24 <a href="http://64.12.187.24">
Correct: http://www.aol.com <a href="http://www.aol.com">

Highlight mail - click on Forward - click on Format, choose Plain text?

Tks Gordon; but 'Plain Text' is not a listed option under the 'Format' pull
down!

There is however a 'Message Fromat' Button which lists HTML, Rich Text &
Plain Text; and when this was used and Plain Text was chosen a dialog opens
saying: "Some of the features in this docuemnt aren't supported by plain text
e-mail. Summary: Formatted text will become plain text; Pictures will be
lost; Tables will be lost".

And, when I used the above referenced button and forwared the subject email,
the AOL Supt Tech replied and said: "I got it, but it was unfortunately sent
in base64 MIME encode".
