Replacing Windows XP with Windows 98 SE

I need to replace Windows XP with Windows 98. How would I
set about this? Could someone give me detailed
instructions, please? Your help is very much appreciated.

Buy an upgrade of Windows XP and upgrade your current OS. Or , clean
install the XP CD using the 98 for compliancy checking. It all depends on
if you have data you want to keep, if you do, upgrade. Upgrading is as
simple as putting the XP CD in the drive and letting autorun do the rest.

Why would one want to.
If you have to,install xp cd,reboot computer,boot to xp
cd,select recovery,press enter key for password,type:
FORMAT C: /FS:FAT32 When its thru,type:EXIT
Remove xp cd,install 98 cd,shutdown,install 98

If you are using the NTFS file system on your hard drive with Windows
XP then you will have to delete the partition and then create a new
one. That will totally destroy everying on the drive, including all
of the installed applications and user data files.

If you are using the FAT32 file system on the hard drive then you need
to reformat the hard drive, which will also totally destroy everything
on it. In that case you can skip down to the section "Start here if
the drive is using FAT32".

If the drive is using NTFS:
Boot the computer with a Windows 98 Startup Disk. Download one from
www.bootdisk.com if you do not already have one.

At the A:\> prompt enter the following command:
FDISK
Make certain you respond YES to the question about support for large
hard drives.
Select the "delete a partition" option and follow the steps needed to
the delete the non-DOS (=NTFS) partition.
Then select the "create a new partition" option and create a new
Primary DOS partition using all the space on the drive.
When completed exit FDISK and reboot the computer, again with the
Startup Disk.

Start here if the drive is using FAT32:
Make sure you choose the option to boot the computer with CDROM
support.
At the A:\> prompt enter the following command:

FORMAT C:

When the format has completed you can insert your Windows 98 CD into
the drive and run the setup program on the CD to install Windows 98.
Then you can reinstall your application programs and restore your data
files from backups.

Boot the Win98 startup floppy. From that run FDISK - say Y to 'Large
disk support?'. Delete the present XP partition - a Non-DOS one for
NTFS and make a suitable size new DOS Primary one for the Win98. Make
sure it is set as Active. Reboot, taking With CD support and noting the
drive letter assigned - eg E:
FORMAT C:
then go to the Win98 CD by giving
E:
or other letter
and
SETUP

Er Joe.... you might want to re-read Ursula's post... She wants to REMOVE XP
and install 98 (for god's sake, why!?!)
