replacing windows mail with outlook

I have a Gateway laptop that I purchased in June 2008. I have been unable to
successfully sync my pda to Windows Mail, and, have been getting the
following error code since I started using a blackberry in June.

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'TEST ', Account: 'Home', Server: 'smtp.att.yahoo.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
I have been receiving emails through the blackberry server to WIndows Mail,
but if I compose a NEW messege or REPLY to, it will hold the messeges in the
outbox as well as give a similar error as above if I try to manually send.

I would like advice on how to best transfer all my emails to outlook(which I
plan to purchase seprately) and how to fix this error in the meantime.

Your mail account settings are correct.

"Unexpectedly terminated" is usually caused by interference from an
antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:
