Yep, that is my northbridge chip under the Zalman heatsink....well, the NB is actually a little smaller and mounted in the centre of that green square, and yes it is kinda a CPU, but handles different tasks.

all done

i got this cpu fan yesterday:

oh my god dead easy to install and its VERY SILENT
i can hardly tell its actually there

five pounds well spent
the best fiver ive spent in a while!


then today i got the Zalman Northbridge heatsink
it took my 20 mins to install a little demanding


i powered up the machine and its like proper silent

MISSION ACHEIEVED

im not so sure its been running for 2 hours now
next time on post ill have a look for the system temp
and cpu temp

and post it back

bigggest worry rite now is that i hope its installed correct the 'northbridge heatsink' if u meant this temp, im not even sure how to check this?

thanks i think im in IMMEDIATE DANGER

i just installd that i got this:

cpu 87C (im worried abt this)
sys 44C
aux 37C


is 87C a bit too much?

im just gona check it in bios to see how much it is in there too!!!

i gather the northbridge is okay

rute just went into bios

in there the system temp is 40C
and the cpu temp is 61C

now the cpu temp using the software u said in windows ix 88C

should i be concerned?
its an xp2200

using the fan from ebuyer!!

yes, I would be VERY CONCERNED and would be changing something.

i think so too!

now when i go into bios its 60C this is okay i beleive

but when in windows 87 even 90C is just CRAZY

wat more can I do except change cpu fan?
there is no fan speed controller.....

Thats way too hot! :eek:

Did you install the heat sink correctly? Did you use some arctic silver or the equivalent?

Maybe the temp reading software is reading incorrectly? You could try this. :)

When you say "fan" did you not change the heatsync as well?

You didn't just fit a new fan ... did you?

IT IS STILL TOO HOT

you risk killing the CPU :rolleyes:

yes it maybe reading wrong
especially if in bios im getting a temp of 60C!!!

now the fan came with the thermal paste on it
i didnt need to add nething it was already added for me.....

umm dangerous as it maybe

but prehaps i could try using another heatsink with the fan i got now....

The "HSF" is NOT cooling your CPU enough ... YOU RISK FRYING YOUR CPU ... but then it is your system.

but fitting it wrong Im struggling to understand.....
how could I have fitted it wrong?

also why does my bios temp differ from windows then?
i presume when the pc gets into winoows the cpu is working more?

well ignorrance is BLISS! :)
