Replacing fax

Can anyone tell me how to remove the fax application that came with XP? It
will not receive long distance faxes (i.e. those outside my area code).
Everything else works fine. I thought I would try to replace it with a Win
Fax program I have.

Just to Control Panel > Add Remove Programs. It should appear under the
"Windows Components" section. Uninstall it from there. (You're making a
smart move!)
