Replacement for OE

I've been using OE for years and its been good. But now Hotmail is not going
to allow OE interface anymore so I've switched to Gmail. OE doesn't handle
POP the way it handles HTMP mail. I like the fact that each Hotmail account
has its own little folder with separate subfolders.

OE handles POP mail from different accounts by sticking them in one in box
and that's all you get. Not maybe I'm handling this wrong. I've looked
around and can not find a way of having separate boxes for each pop account.

So I'm wondering either if there is a modification I can make to OE or
what's out there in CyberSpace that may actually be better then OE. I'm sure
you folks have the answer to this one for sure. I've heard that there are
better things out there but up to this point OE was good enough for me

Thanks for your help.

I created separate folders and subfolders for each of my accounts, then set
up rules to sort incoming messages from my accounts into their respective
folders. ("When the message is from the 'account name' account, move it to
the 'account name' folder.")

Yes, this is what I just figgured out and it works well. Now I'm trying to
figgure out how to keep messages from downloading. Currently I have things
in Hotmail set up not to download anything but the subject line. This offers
me a way to protect myself. If I don't like the subject line I just delete
without downloading.
Works well up to this point, never had a virus yet

Thanks for your help!

Suggest "Easy Notification" (one of several email checkers).

"Easy Notification is an e-mail notification program that gives you the
ability to check for new messages on multiple POP3 servers and preview your
messages without opening your e-mail client. You can also use it to delete
messages from a server.
Easy Notification runs in the system tray and it can detect online/offline
connection before checking for new messages."

(just Google for a list of download servers).

The simplest way would be when you configure your email accounts to also
make sub-folders in your Inbox for each account, and do a simple sort of
incoming messages into each of the appropriate folders based on the "To:"
address via a Mail Rule.

Switch to Thunderbird, it lets you explicitly configure if you want all
your account's emails in one global Inbox, or separate.

You can do that if you have IMAP server, with POP it will be difficult.
Perhaps you could try Spampal, if the spam is the problem

Oh yes it is! Not for new accounts though.

EVERYTHING out there is better than OE. Try Eudora.

Perhaps MR/2 ICE for Windows at www.mr2ice.com?

Perhaps not, as it's not freeware.

And, oddly, it doesn't seem to support conversion from OE, the very thing
you and I would want!

A nice simple email reader that supports POP, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc. is
PopPeeper.
