Replaced Mainboard

The mainboard failed on XPhome box, and I replaced it with a later
version & faster chip. XP found all the new hardware OK, and told
me to re-activate XP. Done that - no problem. However the system
now runs v. v. slow. In task manager CPU use is high (80-100%) and
the offending app is explorer.exe which seems to be running
constantly, upto the point where 'the system is low on virtual
memory'.

I have disabled all startup tsr's with no improvement, and don't
know where to go next. Does anyone suspect a virus? or have any
other suggestion?

Any guidance gratefully accepted.

If all is compatable as the mfg spec sheets detailed
with the swap.Have you updated the BIOS,the other cmd
that needs starting,open BIOS,exit page,select load set-
up defaults, then save changes and exit.

Thanks Andrew, you've pointed me in the right direction - the cpu is
Athlon XP 2800 on via
chipset board. The board has 133Mhz fsb, but the chip is 266 fsb!!!
The b*******ts have sold me the wrong board!!!

Thanks for the advice.
