Cannot Logon

Alan C

After replacing a cooling fan in a Win2k server(sp4), the server
comes up and clients can logon and access their files etc, but if I
logon at the server it gets as far as 'loading personal settings'
and then freezes. The clients loses their connection and the server
must be powered off/on to restart it.

Can anyone help??? Please!

Hi!

Don't know if this helps, but it sounds like you have a problem with your
profile. Try to logon with a different account on the server. If that works
there's probably something wrong with your profile. If that's the case
rename your profile. Access your profile via the network (\\servername\c$)
Browse to "Documents and Settings" rename your profile i.e Administrator to
Administrator.old (if Administrator is the user you are trying to logon as)
or something. W2k should create a new profile when you logon.

I also thought it may be a profile problem, so tried to logon using the
'backdoor' account. Server froze at the same point. My next thought is a
problem with the workstation service. Anyone know if this service starts
prior to or because of a login?
