Replace/restore deleted System Tools Folder

Hello,

Did a dumb thing last night: somehow I deleted the 'System Tools' folder
(including disk cleanup, defrag, etc.) and dumped the Recycle Bin. To
complicate things I did that right after turning off 'System Restore'
monitoring.

I have done a thurough search of the system disk using the 'Search' in the
Windows Explorer and have looked in places where you might expecto find it :
Doc&Settings/(admin/all users)/startmenu/programs/assecories/... etc.
but no luck.

How can I rebuild/replace the System Tools folder from the install disk? Is
there some tool/utility that will check Windows XP for missing components and
repair the operating system back to the 'default'?

Any advise here will be welcome as I'm not sure what to do short of a
complete reinstallation of the entire operating system.

Thank you,

Jim

If you didn't empty the recycling bin, just restore from there.

When you say you've deleted the 'System Tools' folder, do you mean you have
removed this from the Start Menu?

If this is the case, then you have only deleted the shortcuts to those items
rather than the programs themselves.

To rebuild the folder, you can find the applications as follows:
(%System Route% refers to the location of your Windows folder, i.e.
C:\Windows\

Backup - %SystemRoot%\system32\ntbackup.exe
Character Map - %SystemRoot%\system32\charmap.exe
Disk Cleanup - %SystemRoot%\system32\cleanmgr.exe
Disk Defragmenter - %SystemRoot%\system32\dfrg.msc
Files and Setting Transfer Wizard - %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\usmt\migwiz.exe
Security Center - %SystemRoot%\system32\wscui.cpl
System Information - "C:\PROGRAM FILES\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\MSInfo\msinfo32.exe"

System Restore - %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Thank you very much! I found the files where you specified and was able to
recreate the 'System Tools' folder. It looks at little different when I open
it because it does not have the standard XP given names next to the icons.
It displays the file names instead which are a little cryptic. Any thoughts
on how to get those original titles back?

Thanks again!

You post a question the same way you did a 'reply' to this post. Under the
'New' pulldown arrow select 'question'. You must be 'signed-in'. Also, you
may have problems if you have pop-up protection turned on.

Good Luck.
