Replace hard drive - boot partition

I want to replace my primary boot hard disk drive with a SATA drive
(currently an IDE). I can image the current Windows XP install from the IDE
drive and copy to the new SATA drive but obviously since different drivers
are required to boot from the new SATA hard drive the image will not work.

I really don't want to have to re-install Windows XP and all the apps I have
on the new drive. So does anyone have any ideas if and how I can install some
SATA drivers and modify the boot parameters so the current Windows XP install
works on the new SATA drive.

Thanks.

There are adapters that allow you to use a PATA (Parallel ATA) drive on a
SATA port. (I know, I'm using two.) (I have an ABIT motherboard and they
were available via the ABIT web site.)

So, what you do is install the SATA drivers before the swap and afterwards
Windows should have no problems when you change the drives fromn PATA to
SATA. (Make sure you go into the BIOS and change the boot order.)

Then just plug the new SATA drive into the next SATA port and it should be
identified.
