Replace CPU Fan

My CPU fan just died on my main system. The motherboard is an ASUS A7N8X-E
Deluxe. I heard the alarm and shut the system down just as the CPU temp
was approaching 56 deg. C, so I'm sure the processor has suffered no
damage. So, I'm hoping I can just replace the fan, it's held on to the
heatsink with 4 screws. I'm just not sure what size or type of fan to buy.
Can anyone give me some info? Thanks, much.

I've usually found it easier and about the same price to replace
heatsink, fan, and all at the same time. Either one generally runs
about $20; so why not? It's difficult to match exact sizes for CPU fans
video-card fans, or motherboard chipset fans, unlike case fans.

Since this is a Socket A CPU, I'm concerned about the ease in finding the
heatsink and all.

Thanks!

Measure the diameter of the fan opening. The fan size is probably either
60-mm or 70-mm. Replacing the fan is easier, but only if it is something
possible to do. If the entire combination has to be replaced, then one
faces potential problems at dismounting the old heatsink from the CPU,
degunking the thermal compound and then mounting the new heatsink-fan
along with an application of fresh thermal compound.

Patty, this one surely has good specs, esp. for the price. Love that
42+ cfm airflow. Noise at 32 db is not the quietest, but cool should be its
virtue. I'd bet my $ on one if I needed a new one on my A7N8X-DeLuxe with a
Barton running at 2.31 ghz or with an Athlon 3200. And it's in stock for
$14, shipped! Of note, the hs is all copper. sam
