Replace BootMagic with NT Loader (GoBack issue)

I have a dual boot system, set up following Bob Delaney's
great advice, with Win98SE on the first (FAT32) partition
(7.75 MB), Win XP Pro on the second (NTFS) partition, and
a logical (FAT32) drive as the third partition. I have
been using BootMagic to select the OS at boot.

However, I'd like to install GoBack on this system.
According to Symantec, GoBack is only compatible with the
NT Loader. Is there anyway to remove/diable BootMagic,
and set up to use the NT Loader instead? I've searched a
lot on this, but can't find any information useful to a
non-expert on dual boots.

Thanks for any help,

Charlie Almquist

When you boot into WinXP, does the system appear to be
installed on drive C:? If so then you must continue with BootMagic.

Hi,

Sorry - thought I had posted a repsonse yesterday, but
I'm not seeing it on the board

Thanks for your reply. Can you elaborate a little bit?
From what I have read, I thought that any dual-boot
configuration would show the active OS as the "C" drive.
From what you're saying, I gather that this is not true.

My installation followed fairly normal practice, with
Bootmagic only coming in at the last step. I thought
perhaps that some combo of replacing the MBR & Boot.ini
would undo the Bootmagic install.

A machine that uses the WinXP boot loader, and that
has Win98 on the first partition and WinXP on the
second partition would show both partitions at all
times. This means that the first partition appears
as drive C: and the second as drive D:.

In your case, WinXP seems to appear on drive C: even
though it is installed on the second partition. This implies
that the first partition is hidden. A third-party boot manager
can do this; the WinXP boot manager can't. This is why
I believe that you must continue using a third-party
boot manager.

Thanks much for the explanation. I guess I'll have to re-
think my options.
