repetetive questions

I had been a faithful reader and contributor to the MSAS news groups but I
am sorry to say I am discontinuing that activity. Every time someone new
sins up for the newsgroups, they don't bother to read any threads because in
about 90% of the time they start a new thread by asking the same questions
and also by introducing topics that don't belong in th newsgroups. I
realize that people need answers to problems but this area is for MSAS
problems. This is probably true of all open beta's but is very annoying to
some(Iincluding myself). Nevrer encountered this situattion when testing
XP, Encarta, PC-Cillin 2005, PC-Cillin 2006 and Panda Titanium. I am
probaly being a snob but I think the situation is deplorable.

Hi Ira,

No, you are not a snob.

A lot of helpers agree with your stament (my self included).

I wonder if is a way to fix this problem. Could be a big benefict for the
helpers and the poster with the problems.

I like to thank you for the time helping here, because I learn from you too.

Happy Y2K6 !!

I personally never answer questions - there are persons with
infinite patience in this NG (Bill Sanderson, Engel, Dave M, plun to mention
but a few) who apparently
have endless patience to answer these questions again and again.

There is a simple solution - to have an FAQ.
Every time someone asks the obvious - you point to the
FAQ and say RTFM ('read the F*%$ing manual'). Simple.

3-or 4 themes would answer 90 % of the queries, which are
invariably about:
- new definitions failing to update
- the scheduler does not work for times set 12:00> hrs in non-US time
zones
- MSAS does not catch 'tracker cookies'

And don't forget the mantra 'The Next Beta (2) will solve all these
problems'. :)

Hi Kes;

Mind if I quote you to my wife?

Actually, I've just gotten really good at Copy & Paste, plus I use a Desktop
Indexer that makes finding things a snap.

The problem with having an un-moderated newsgroup is that it can turn into a
free for all. Sometimes that can be interesting and frustrating at the same
time. I just try to remember what it was like when I first installed a security
product and didn't have a clue. You know, to this day I still learn more in
here than I give back, and thanks to what I have learned, I've never had a virus
or a spyware on this system. So thanks everyone, for your input too.

This is not entirely true, I read these posts on a daily basis, as well as
many other
Microsoft users. I read them for imformation purposes. I learn a lot by
reading
these posts, questions and answers. If I have a problem with my Microsoft
software,I will look for imformation here and on help pages, and then, if I
can't
find the answer anywhere else, I post my question here. I and many others,
understand that the needs, far outweigh the number of volenteers to help, and
these volunteres are appreciated. I have, only basic computer skills, and
sometimes need all the help I can get, and many others out there in the
comunity are the same as me. It's none of my business, and I appoligise
in advance if I have intruded on this conversation, but, I think you should
reconsider you decission. Thanks
