AntiVirus: Panda or Pc-cillin?

T

Tom

I am probably likely to start a LONG thread, but here goes: What are your
opinions on the antivirus programs Panda AntiVirus and Trend Micro's
Pc-cillin? Which is a better product? And NO, I am -not- considering
Norton - I have run Norton for many, many years (currently using the 2003
version), but since they have added stupid product activation in the 2004
version, I refuse to use any of their products ever again. Therefore, I am
not going to be going to Norton AV 2004, but am considering one of the two
products above for protecting my WinXP Pro.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? Opinions? etc? (Note: I may also post this
in the 2000 forum)

Also consider AVG Antivirus software. It is free. I am currently using it at
school (which is a hostile environment lately) and so far it seems quite
good. You can download it from www.grisoft.com.

I am using AVG 7 Pro and find it very good, and with a price of $US 33.30
for two years I think that the value is there as well.

I buy McAfee when it is on sale, with rebates and cash
discounts, often it is free or under $5

Just be aware that part of the fee you pay to Panda AntiVirus will go to the
Church of Scientology.

Hi Tom. I am very happy with the free program called 'Anti-Vir
http://www.free-av.com/ it is unobtrusive and very effective. I had
TrendPC-cillin for years, but the support was terrible. And all those codes
and serial numbers to update or change anything were a pain! Also, a
complete restore after a crash was never fully explained. And they charge
$20 every year for an upgrade. With Anti-Vir, the update is not automatic
and you have to remember to click on the icon every day or so to update the
program. Takes about four minutes......Regards. Dingo

Panda comes out of Spain, and comment from an MVP colleague there, and
another in the US who builds machine have not been complimentary.
PC-Cillin is often well spoken of. For friends I usually get the free
version of AVG (www.grisoft.com). Kapersky is also a very well regarded
AV, and I understand it has a Lite version.

In pay ones (without activation) the one I actually use is eTrust from
www.cai.com or more directly www.my-etrust.com

Does anyone have any hands on experience with Kapersky? Do they
require activation? How are they with updates? Any info would be
appreciated.
