repeated install

I recently installed a new printer on a USB port. It seems to work fine.

But now every time the computer boots up, or the printer is restarted, or
the printer cable removed and replaced, the New Hardware Wizard tries to
install the printer again.

I already have "Automatically search for network folders and printers"
turned OFF.

How can I get the new hardware wizard to come up only when there's new
hardware?
