repeated Hal.dll "missing or corrupt" messages

Over the last week, my computer, running XP Pro sp1, has
failed to complete the boot process. Every time it fails
to boot, the error message "Hal.dll missing or corrupt"
is displayed. After using the repair console and run
BOOTCFG /REBUILD, the computer will boot the next several
times. The "new entry" into the file is identical to the
previous entry. I've never had any trouble like this
before and am not sure how to prevent this from happening
again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

HAL is the Hardware Abstraction Layer. Sounds like you are experiencing
hardware problems.
