I know I'm a pain, but can anyone tell me where I can go to repair my XP
operating system so my setting up a home network wizard can work?

to repair the operating system
you simply need your windows xp
setup/install cd and follow
the guidelines below:.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspx

be sure to select
"an existing installation"
that will be produced
via a small table of
results during the process.

if you do not select
an existing installation,
the repair install will
actually install a whole
new o.s. somewhere on
the partition.

I appreciate your reply, but my machine came with XP already loaded. I have
no operating disc. Any ideas?

Not having an XP installation CD is indeed a drawback. Your system came
with some means to restore the OS. The manufacturer has 3 options:
1. XP installation CD
2. Recovery CD
3. Hidden partition on the hard drive with an image of the drive as
received from the factory. To do a restore you would restart the computer
and do a certain key press or combination during startup to get into the
recovery routine.

Many of these OEM provided recovery mechanisms are a destructive restore.
All data and installed programs are lost. Some provide a non destructive
recovery option.

You need to check the documentation that came with the computer or with the
computer manufacturer's tech support for how to do a recovery.

Anybody with a pc/laptop should own either a revovery cd or the real MS
OS they want to use.

in addition to
the other suggestions,
there may be a possibility
that some repair can be
done via an emergency boot
up disk made from another
pc that is functional.
