repairing Xp

I just recently had a problem were my xp would not load up, so i decided just
to reinstall xp. however i had a lot of important things on my computer that
i did not want deleted, so i selected the option that would not delete
everything on my hard drive and just reinstall the operating system. it
worked but alot of programs i had before dont work and i cant get into my old
user acount, is there any way to get the old acount working again or just get
into the files in it.

any input would help THANKS

In XP Home you have to boot in safe mode to see the security tab.

Have you tried logging in using the administrator account? an easy way to
get to it is by pressing ctrl alt del at the logon screen press it several
times about three then you will get prompted with a traditional logon screen
type administrator as the user then your password and see if that does the
job. if not try the option posted by the other user.

You should be able to access the data in the old account by Taking
Ownership, #9 on this link:

You will need to reinstall your programs.
