I have been trying to repair Windows but when I reach the console and after
selecting the drive number I am prompted for the administrator name, but if I
ignore this by hittingthe Return Key I am returned to C: Windows. How do I
get past this?

The only way I know to get past this would be to reinstall the OS, this
time carefully writing down the Administrator's password.

Hi TFT,

It sounds to me like you've successfully started the Recovery
Console.......if you key in the correct password (or hit ENTER/Return key if
no password was set up for Administrator account) then you will be at the C:
\Windows prompt (or whichever drive letter corresponds to the drive on which
WINXP was installed). At the C:\Windows prompt, you would key in the
commands that you want to perform in Recovery Console. There is a listing of
available commands here:

Hi,

That is the Recovery Console command prompt - meaning you have successfully
accessed it and are ready to do whatever it is you want to do from it. I
would hazard a guess however, that what you are trying to do is a repair
installation. For this, do not hit "r" at the first prompt, but instead
start the installer. Agree to the license (hit F8), then at the next stage
you will be offered the option to repair an existing installation.
