repairing config file

My XXXp system says the config file is missing and I beed to reboot with original cd and use 'r' option to try to repair the problem. But when I try the cd asks me for the system adminitrator password. It doesn't like the password I set up when I set up my user logon id. Any ideas on what I should be using?
