Repairing 98\XP dual-boot

Sam

I had to re-install w98 and ran into some boot issues. I copied back
boot.ini, ntldr and ntdetect to the c drive. Then used the fixboot command
in the recovery console. The start menu appears and when I select xp, it
reboots immediately. With w98 - invalid system disk. The bootcfg rebuild
didn't work. Is there a file that I missed or was there something I should
have done but didn't?

Thanks,
Sam

Thanks but that's not quite what I need. It assumes that you are using FAT32
and XP is on the C drive. I'm using NTFS and it's on the D drive.

Yes, but don't be so quick to dismiss those steps. I have had dual-boot with
98 on C (FAT32) and XP on D (NTFS) and, after having formatted and
reinstalled 98 on C with XP still on D, have followed the instructions in
the "Repairing the Windows® XP Boot Loader" section in addition to copying
ntldr and ntdetect.com to C drive. Following that, I was successful at
booting into both operating systems once again.

I would also check it out first, I have the same configuration (C: fat32
win98, D: XP NTFS)

if after you finish reading that and still have problems, post or repost the
exact problem and I or someone else here will surely get ya going again.

I appreciate both your feedback. I got frustrated with it and wiped
out both drives. I'm up and running. Made a new ghost image so I
won't have to worry about it again for another year.

Thanks again,
Sam

| Forgot to mention copying boot.ini in addition to ntldr and
ntdetect.com :)
