Repaired XP Pro SP2, lost no setups/data, then Win Update screwed system AGAIN!

OK... I had been posting how my system had gotten screwed up via the Windows
Updates... Well after messing with MS Knowledge Base suggestions, dorking
with kernel32.dll, etc... I finally resorted to putting the XP CD in and
letting it "Repair". Thirty some minutes later it came back up, it was
fixed! (OK, had to reboot once to get it out of the weeds after it had
completed the Setup, but then it worked!)

Well, I figured since it had copied files from my XP Pro CD I had better
check the Windows Updates! I also figured that since it had just repaired
stuff AND had copied a bunch of files over/installed them, that the security
updates ought to be fine! HA! They all installed just fine and dandy, and
then on reboot it went through the splash screen, and then, right when it
should have come up with the login, the screen clicked (like it was changing
modes/resolutions), and then the hard drive heads went to the landing zone
and it spun down. (The screen was greenish/grayish/black.) They had screwed
the system over AGAIN!

Here were the 18 updates, in the order they got installed (decided by
Windows)
01) KB885884 Update for Office XP SP2
02) KB873339
03) KB886185
04) KB885836
05) KB890175
06) KB888302
07) KB891781
08) KB888113
09) KB873333
10) KB887942 (?)
11) KB893086
12) KB893066
13) KB890923 (IE update)
14) KB890859
15) Installer 3.1
16) KB885835
17) KB890830
18) KB885250

This is a bummer... the screen still goes to the greenish/grayish/blackish
(after all of the clicks from the monitor).

Any help or suggestions?
(Too tired to detailedly perscribe.)

You are pissing in the wind dude. Without hardware details (probably
the problem) and following up your posts in the same thread no one will
help you. If on the other hand you just want to vent then ...

I feel your pain,
John

ps: You have control if you want it. Don't install anything that isn't
needed. Just because there is a fix for someone's thing doesn't mean
that your thing automagically broken.

You are prob. right... given that it is Windoz the only recourse would prob.
be to reload the entire $#%@* OS. Well, for now I am re-repairing (Last
Known Good... did not work).

I just got a spare CPU/mobo/case... am going to migrate my wife's Win98 PC
over to it... use her old hardware for a Linux system... finally. Hey,
maybe I will like it enough to convert my main system (someday).
