After XP repair, can no longer do Windows update

I have a couple Dell pcs where I did an XP repair. Once it completed, the
glitchy problems we had were fixed, so we are happy. However, if we attempt
any Windows updates, they download, but all fail. No error message, just
says updates didn't install.

This also happens whenever we upgrade a pc with Windows 2000 to Windows XP.
I've done every Google search imaginable but all recommended solutions don't
pertain to our exact situations.

So upgrading, reinstalling, or repairing XP seems to disable the actual
install of updates.

Any help is much appreciated.

While searching, did you come across this article?

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP installation

Good luck

You may want to try this simpler fix from **Microsoft's Update Help.

Use [Start], Run, and enter the following commands
(you can copy/paste)

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll

I had the same problem and this fixed it.

Suggest you use Notepad, copy/paste this list, and save for future.
