Repair XP Not Doing Anything

Chkdsk finally finished running. This is the info:
60011680 kb total disk space available
37486912 disk space available
32768 bytes each allocation units
1875365 total allocation units
1171466 allocation units available.

I also ran bootcfg /add. Response was "total identified
windows installations: 1
C:\windows

It then prompts me to add. I don't know where to go from
here.

Hi,

You should just hit <enter> at that point to add it to the list. Then exit
and restart normally.

Is that likely to solve the problem that is the root of
this all --- config.sys missing or corrupted? I would
presume I need to run windows repair/setup.

Tried that, nothing doing.

I still
don't understand why Win XP won't let me run setup on top
of Win XP installation.

It could be that the XP install is simply too corrupted to be
recognized as a legit install of XP.

I had this happen on a drive I had and ended up having to clean
install because the XP install was simply too corrupted to be even
recognized as being there.

Another time when I did a repair install it worked just fine as XP saw
the XP installation and proceeded to repair it.

Hi,

Don't knopw why it would be calling for config.sys, that is not a file used
in a WinXP system. I'm afraid I don't really have any further answers for
you.
